love is a little haven of refuge from the world
I think weddings are really magical.
Haven’t been to a wedding in a long long time, since I was a little kid actually. I wonder why no relatives have been getting married hmm… or maybe my parents just secretly went without me knowing, or maybe I didn’t care that much about weddings while growing up. Anyway, today I went for my biao yi’s wedding. She’s my mother’s aunt’s daughter, and since my mum and her aunt were really close last time, we went out to chalets and stuff together quite a lot in the past.
Truth be told, I’d forgotten what she looked like already, and I’m pretty sure so did she. But something in me just wanted to be at that wedding. I don’t know why, it could be a sudden wave of curiosity, probably because I felt like eating some good food. Either way, I’m really glad I went :)
The ballroom at Grand Copthorne was quite cosy and there werent that many tables. I counted around 24 tables, which is really little compared to the 100+ table weddings that my father’s side of the family usually has, but the close proximity made everyone feel that more involved. They did quite a nice video montage of the both of them together (importance of taking lots of photos) and even uploaded the video of the groom receiving the bride from her home that very morning, complete with all the gruesome tasks he and his friends had to complete. Quite alot of effort on the part of the Organising Team, I must say.
Random trivia I realised today: the wedding dinner is really all about the bride. After a whole evening of looking at the couple, I barely remember how the groom looked like! In fact, the biggest takeaway I had from him was that he was wearing a very nice suit :p
Okay why did I say weddings are magical? Apart from bringing a couple together, I feel that weddings also serve to bridge the gap between family members. With so many cousins spread across such a wide family tree, sometimes its difficult to meet up with all of them; some might even have forgotten each others’ existence. Weddings give everyone a legitimate reason to meet up again, minus all the awkwardness one would undoubtedly have to go through if he/ she were to schedule a get together.
its a freaking headache for the bride and groom to have to entertain a thousand odd people, but if it helps bring a family together again, then why not?
Oh and the takeaway gift was really cute! Its this deck of poker cards with 52 quotes on love! I particularly liked the one at the top of this post :) kudos to the OT once again!
